Child Protection Policy

(Code Of Ethics)

Phoenix Kayak Club aims to encourage the participation of young people in pursuing a wide range of
kayaking disciplines. Through participation in the club we aim to help develop young people’s kayaking
skills, fitness, their confidence and to help maximize their own potential. The safety and protection of
all our club members is of paramount importance.

As a club we commit to:
• Ensuring safety of club members while participating in club activities.
• Developing junior members through the sharing of kayaking skills in a positive and constructive
manner.
• Encourage junior members of all abilities to enjoy kayaking.
• Ensuring good ethical practice by club leaders and other members in all club activities involving
junior members.
• Ensure that adult members are familiar with and adhere to our Code of Ethics and Child Protection
policy.

As a club we expect junior members to:
• Always follow safety instructions of instructors and group leaders, both on and off the water.
• Enjoy themselves and seek to improve their skills.
• Have a go at the disciplines offered.
• Behave responsibly in terms of their own safety and the safety of other club members.
• Be supportive and respectful of other club members.
• Show group leaders and instructors respect and appreciation.

As a club we ask parents to:
• Encourage their children to behave responsibly and respectfully.
• Encourage their children to have a go, develop their kayaking skills and enjoy themselves.
• Provide hands-on support to the club when possible.

Phoenix Kayak Club endorses the Irish Canoe Union’s Child Protection Policy and has two child
protection officers on its committee. The current CPOs and their contact details are available on our
website and they can be contacted if you want any more information on our Code of Ethics Policy, or
if any specific concerns arise.
